Business Generalist - SF

Insurance is one of the world’s largest (10% of global GDP) industries but also among the most intermediated. Premium for a policy typically passes between multiple firms that transact via PDFs, spreadsheets, and snail mail, causing expensive operational inefficiency, lost revenue, and lost insight.

At Comulate, we’re building revenue software modernizing how $7T of insurance premiums are transacted through the value chain. Our platform automates hair-on-fire manual accounting workflows and delivers a step-change in revenue intelligence that increases revenue and powers critical decision making.

Customers have taken note: we hit $100K ARR six months after writing the first line of code, surpassed $1M ARR six months later, and have doubled in the few months since then. Despite being a team of just five tackling decades-old problems, we’re already delivering serious ROI for logos typically not sold into until Series C/D stage. Our product roots, problem space obsession, and the deep pain and financial cost of the status quo, have primed us for explosive growth. However, we don’t believe explosive business growth requires exploding headcount if you can find incredibly talented, driven individuals who solve problems before the typical company has even put it on the roadmap. We’re successfully scaling that leverage with our engineering team, and are beginning to pursue the same with our business teams. That’s where you come in.

We’re hiring a founding business generalist onsite in SF to partner with Jordan (co-founder / CEO), a role proximate to a chief of staff or COO elsewhere. We’ll work together to build a world-class business org that will be known for producing big results with a shockingly small team.

You’ll be a full-time problem solver, strategic thinker that both makes and takes bets. Taking bets often means doing the execution yourself. You come to Comulate with hard + soft skills, whether that’s writing compelling copy, running complex implementations, or raw prospecting. As a natural doer, your default instinct is to get it done vs. hire an agency or contractor.

You’ll leverage the portfolio of hats you wear to outperform specialists. You’re able to outperform a large marketing team, for example, not because you’re a better marketer, but because you connect dots you uniquely gather by having your hands in multiple areas of the business. In addition to constantly connecting those dots, you’ll outperform the specialist because of your built-in agency and grit that guides you to do what it takes to get it done.

Comulate was founded by Jordan Katz and Michael Mattheakis, longtime friends from undergrad. Jordan (CEO) joined Asana after its Series C, working as a product manager on several teams through IPO, before joining Pathlight as its first product hire. Michael (CTO), after summer stints at Google and Facebook, joined Brex as its 10th hire, helping scale its platform and engineering team over nearly 4 years.

We raised a $4M seed round in August 2022, led by Natalie Sandman of Spark Capital, joined by founders/execs from Brex, Asana, Plaid, Coalition, Vouch, Applied Intuition, and dozens of top insurance founders and operators. With revenue already above seven-figures and large companies already using the product, we’re growing a lean, high horsepower founding team excited to build a category-defining, breakout company. We’re hiring in San Francisco: we believe in-person collaboration is strategically important for a company at our stage — both for velocity and company culture.
